Introduction
John Whiting Washington, third cousin of George Washington built the main portion of the house as his townhouse in 1824. Thomas Clark purchased the property in 1880, and until 1989 the home remained in the Clark family.
Washington House Bed & Breakfast, circa 1824, is in Russellville's Historic District. Our home is featured on the historic walking tour, which identifies old homes and churches with interesting architecture, history and culture. The architecture of the home is Colonial Revival in the Federal style. The 1824 portion of the home has 18-inch thick brick walls and 11-foot ceilings. The front parlor has an 8-foot wide Adams mantel, original to the home, flanked by floor to ceiling bookcases. The home is decorated with a mixture of period antiques, artwork and reproduction furniture, much of which is for sale.
Area Attractions: South Union Shaker Community, Jefferson Davis birthplace and monument, Red River Meeting House, Lake Malone, and the Corvette Museum in Bowling Green.
President's Suite
The first floor suite features a large sitting room with big comfortable chairs, sofa, cable television and a stereo. The large bedroom has a queen size bed and the suite has two private baths. A small rollaway bed is also available.
Asia Room
This second floor room has a queen size bed, an en suite bath, big comfortable chairs, sofa and a television. This is the most relaxing room in the house!
There is a shared screened porch, formal room with piano, fireplace, dining area and stocked guest kitchen on the first floor. Early risers can enjoy coffee and juice in the guest kitchen.
Reservations should be made at least one week in advance and check in time is 3:00 until 7:00 p.m. for overnight stays. Check out is 11:00 a.m. No deposit is required. Sorry, we do not accept credit cards. Cash, Personal checks or Travelers Checks are acceptable.
We provide an enchanting ambiance for wedding photographs, bridal showers, bridal teas, high teas, baby showers, etc.
We can provide meeting accommodations and light refreshments for small groups that want a change of pace from the usual conference room. Overhead projectors and screens are available.
