Wamego is located in the Northeast corner of Kansas in Pottawatomie County. It is the home of numerous Wamego bed and breakfasts. These Wamego B&B’s boast some of the best accommodations around. Wamego is known as the "Oz Capital of the World" due to the movie, the Wizard of Oz. The Wizard of Oz museum is located in Wamego along with several other Oz-related businesses. The third weekend in April, Wamego celebrates the Tulip Festival with more than 18,000 tulips, over 100 arts and crafts booths and many food vendors. Two different bike rides - The Yellow Brick Road Bike Ride and The Cabin Fever Challenge Bike Ride raise funds for WAM-SAG-MAN recreational trail. The Columbian Theatre is open year-round and is home to professional stage productions from broadway musicals to country jamborees. The place to go for BBQ in Wamego is Black Jack Hills. They have down home BBQ and all the fixins. However, unless it's Thursday - don't bother - that's the only day they are open. If you're looking for OZ-themed restaurants, Wamego has two. JavOZs Coffee Bar has such treats as The Flying Monkey and The Ruby Sipper. Toto's Tacoz has of course tacos as well as other Fresh Mexican food. Stop by a Wamego inn after a long day; you will be glad you did.
