History
Holton House was built in 1888 by Granville Fane King, a merchant from DeKalb, MO, as a private residence. Around 1930, the property was purchased by Porterfield Funeral Home and later it was bought by the McAsey Funeral Home and then the Padden Funeral Home. Finally, it was purchased by Mercer Funeral Home in the 1960's. A short time after, the property was purchased by a private citizen and the home was turned into apartments.
The house remained apartments until approximately 1993, when it was purchased by Carl Wallisch. The downstairs dining room was renovated by the Wallisch's and their daughter, Kristi Worrel. Pat and Kristi Worrel bought Holton House in 1999 and began hosting events in the dining room and Kristi's Catering was born. In August 2005, Shaun and Tara Deegan took over operations at Holton House and Tara's Catering, and began renovations on the second floor to create Holton House Bed and Breakfast.
