Greetings Inngoers Reader,
It's already two weeks after Hurricane Katrina hammered the Gulf Coast, but even today the destruction, the suffering -- and the overwhelming response from concerned people in America and worldwide -- are beyond our ability to comprehend, calculate or describe.
Since Katrina passed, we have been trying to learn the situation of our member innkeepers in the storm zone. We're gathering information from a variety of sources, and putting it all together in a Hurricane Status section.
Everyone at BBOnline extends sympathy, prayers and best wishes to the residents of the storm-affected portions of Florida, Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana, and to the thousands of people who have come to their aid both in the storm zone and in the many places where survivors have sought refuge.

| Hurricane Status |
|
As the storm cleared, we began looking for news of how our innkeepers and their inns fared. We have collected information on a number of the more than 60 bed & breakfasts in Katrina's path of destruction. Some were devastated, some spared, and many are not yet accounted for.
One story in particular stands out: Tom Schoenbrun of Maison Perrier - New Orleans, boarded up and left on Sunday before the storm hit. After lending a car to one set of guests, and driving another
couple with his family to safety, Tom learned that one staff member's family had missed their ride out of town, and were on the way to Houston after harrowing days at the Superdome. Tom drove from Tyler, TX to Houston to pick up this family, and has found them a place to stay. The Maison Perrier's other employees got away to other cities, but all have lost a great deal. Tom has started a relief fund for all the staff. The inn itself appears to have been spared, and Tom writes that he is eager to get back to business as soon as permitted.
Many of the comments we've received reflect the innkeepers' eagerness to get back home, clean up their inns and reopen for their guests. We applaud their courage and spirit. Several B&Bs are providing housing for flood survivors, and as well as accommodating relief workers.
In St. Francisville, LA for example, we hear that the Butler Greenwood Plantation "has cleaned up from Hurricane Katrina and is currently housing in our 8 cottages 40 storm evacuees, 6 dogs and 5 cats" at least through September.
Innkeepers across the nation have offered help and shelter to their colleagues, and even temporary situations as innsitters. We are working to match offers of help with innkeepers in need.
