Last month, we asked our member innkeepers to answer two questions for us:
- What do you wish your first-time guests knew on arrival at your B&B?
- What do your favorite guests have in common?
The response was enthusiastic, even overwhelming! As soon as we can distill the reams of good advice, we will announce our how-to section for "newbie" inn guests; we wouldn't be surprised if seasoned B&B travelers discover some useful tips there as well. In the meanwhile, here's a tidbit:
Our innkeepers hope their first-time guests understand that unlike big
hotels, B & Bs are usually staffed by the owners. For example if you'll be
arriving later than expected, and don't call to say so, your host -- gourmet breakfast chef -- might wait up late wondering where you are. And, since being a B&B guest is much like being a house guest, please remember to ask for what you need -- making you happy is what makes your innkeeper happy.
How can you be the kind of guest the innkeeper remembers with a smile? Be courteous, be reasonably quiet, be considerate of innkeepers and fellow guests, be friendly, outgoing, fun-loving, and eager to meet and get to know others.
