Introduction

The Old Windmill Bed and Breakfast was built in the late 1800's by the Bassett Family. Later it was know as the Alford home and was to remain that way for over 100 years. In 2002, Bill and Mary Johnson purchased the home and began the adventure of making this 3 bedroom home into a bed and breakfast. We have 2 rooms with shared bathrooms and 1 with a private bath. To the east of the home stands the working windmill which for years pumped water into the home.

The Old Windmill B&B is on the outer limits of Shelbyville, Indiana. The Indiana Downs Horse Racetrack is located 2 1/2 miles down the road and we are located just off I-74. We are also located less than 2 miles from the Shelbyville Airport.

Dining Room Antiques and Collectibles
In our dining room you will find a collection of antiques and collectibles that are available to purchase. Also, in downtown Shelbyville we have the Shelbyville Antique Mall and more shops in the surrounding towns.

Your Visit
Once you have arrived, you may retire to your room to relax or sit on our big front porch or the deck in the back of the house and enjoy the flower garden. If you would rather explore, Bill and I will be glad to give you directions to area attractions, local dining and shopping.

Policies

  • A deposit of 50% is required on all reservations (with a major credit card please).
  • Cancellations 14 days prior to arrival date will receive a full refund.
  • Cancellations less than 14 days will be charged the full deposit, unless the room(s) can be rerented.
  • All rooms have air conditioning or in the spring and fall you may enjoy the windows open for a cool breeze.
  • A sitting room is available with satellite TV and movies.
  • Check-in time: 4 - 6 p.m.; Check-out time: 11 a.m.
  • No personal checks accepted.
  • We gladly accept MasterCard, American Express, Discover, and Visa.
  • Our B&B is nonsmoking (inside), Smoking deck area available.
  • NO Pets allowed. Please note that owners do have small dog in home.

  • Rates include breakfast.
  • Rates range from $65 to $125 per night.
  • Corporate rates are available for midweek stays.
Directions:

  • Exit off I-74 onto Indiana State Road 9 (Exit #113)
  • Then north on SR 9 one mile to Bassett Road
  • Turn left (West) on Bassett Road
  • We are the first big farm house on the left side of the (Bassett) road
  • We are located next to the new Intelliplex Park.
