New Albany, Indiana (IN) Bed and Breakfast: Admiral Bicknell Inn was one of the first homes in America to have a central heat and air system which can still be seen in the walls of the rooms, with grates at floor and ceiling levels. The convex windows on the front of the house and most of the gas light fixtures are original. The large cupola was added by Admiral Bicknell in the late 1800's for a better view of the Ohio River.

The Admiral Bicknell Inn is located just across the river from
Louisville, 12 minutes from the Louisville Airport and Churchill Downs.

staircase/foyer It took nearly two years to build, and no expense was spared when this home was built for Dr. John Sloan. Having had only three previous owners prior to becoming an Inn, the Admiral Bicknell Inn still retains much of its original grandeur. The double pier mirrors from floor to ceiling in the parlor and dining rooms were built in France specifically for the house. With the original winding mahogany staircase with cherry balustrade, twelve-foot ceilings on the first and second floors, original ten-foot doors and original floors and moldings, this home is an incredible showplace.

The Admiral Bicknell Inn offers five guest rooms, each having a private in-suite bath. Additional room features include top-of-the-line Jameson pillow top mattresses, feather beds, down comforters, 400-800 thread count sheets, Egyptian cotton towels, plush robes, Natura soaps, lotion, shampoo and bubble bath, high speed internet access, phone, and television with DVD or VCR players. A selection of DVD's and videos, cards, board games, additional towels, iron, ironing board, hair dryer, etc., are all available upon request.

A full breakfast is included and can be served in the dining room, breakfast room, or fireside in the kitchen with the chef. The menu may include items such as French Toast, plate-sized blueberry pancakes, omelets, stratas, homemade breads and biscuits, smoked apple wood bacon or sausages, and fresh fruit.

The Admiral Bicknell Inn's common areas include the parlor, dining room, breakfast room, extensive rear patios, and upper and lower decks. A full-size refrigerator is located in the breakfast room and contains ice and complimentary beverages. Chips, cookies and other snacks are always available.
