Introduction
Tourists, business people or romantics who prefer the quiet and homey atmosphere of smaller lodgings may appreciate this historic home near St. Louis and sites of interest in Southwestern Illinois.
TheVictorian home was built in 1885 by a no-nonsense woman who put her money into floor-to-ceiling closets rather than into stained glass or inlaid floors. It was purchased in 1908 by David and Sunshine Baer and remained the home of their daughter Jeanne throughout her long life. David Baer owned nearby mule barns and became known as the "Mule King of the World" because he supplied 10,000 mules a year to the British armed forces in WWI.
AAA 3 Diamond Rating
During the restoration of the house in 1995, four luxurious guestrooms were created, two with private baths.
The screened-in porch is a delightful place to rest and read after selecting a book from the home's library.
