 The Frank Lloyd Wright-designed Muirhead Farmhouse provides a bed and breakfast experience like no other. Set in a peaceful country setting just northwest of Chicago (west of Elgin, IL), the Muirhead Farmhouse is a little known architectural wonder and the only known working farmhouse to be designed and built by the renowned architect. The Muirhead Farmhouse offers you a chance to live and experience Usonian architecture and take in the breathtaking beauty of the Illinois Prairie and its sunsets. Our location is ideal for day trips to explore Wright's buildings in Chicago, Oak Park and southern Wisconsin. Or if you would rather, take in the sites of the Fox River Valley region.

The 3,200 square foot Usonian-style home is still owned by the family that commissioned it in the late 1940s. Click here to view our short video on the history of the Muirhead Farmhouse complete with footage of the original construction. It features Wright-designed furniture and numerous historical artifacts related to its unique design and construction. The vast surrounding grounds are now owned by the Kane County Forest Preserve and will be restored with native wildflowers and prairie grasses. In the summer and fall months, enjoy fresh vegetables and fruits from our gardens. If you like to walk or cycle, the nearby country roads and trails are quite enjoyable. |

Our master suite features Wright-designed furniture and an attached bath with original fixtures. On Friday and Saturday night stays, enjoy a hearty country-style breakfast or continental breakfast in our dining room or on your private patio. For weeknight stays (Sunday-Thursday), a plentiful array of self-serve continental breakfast options will be provided for your enjoyment.

Come experience the magical transition that occurs in Wright-designed homes as they move from daylight into night and learn about how the home was specifically designed to meet the needs of an active farm family. You may also want to set aside time to read through the collection of correspondence on hand between the Muirhead family and Mr. Wright during the planning stages of the house.
