The Ellis Sanders House Bed & Breakfast is an original 1840's red brick Federalist-style Mormon Nauvoo Residence, built with Isaac Hill Brick. Our location is the closest Bed and Breakfast to the restored Pioneer sights and we are within walking distance to all Historical Nauvoo attractions, including the Nauvoo temple.

At the Ellis Sanders House guests will experience privacy and tranquility nestled in an acre of trees and gardens. Natural light illuminates the interior throughout the day, with many large windows providing exceptional views of the Mississippi River and surrounding park. Many of the original 1840's features and interior appointments have been preserved, including original wood floors, doors, cupboards, moldings and banister. Antiques, fine furnishings, beautiful rugs and fresh flowers compliment the historic atmosphere of the Ellis Sanders House.

A gourmet breakfast is served each morning at 9:00 a.m. on the veranda overlooking the Mississippi River or in the formal dining room during the winter. A self service continental breakfast is available earlier, if requested the evening before.


Ellis Sanders House is known as Nauvoo's most romantic and elegant honeymoon or anniversary accommodation. Special occasion packages are available, including Horse drawn carriage rides! We can also host your wedding.

Rates & Information
  • Two large guests rooms overlooking the Mississippi River, EACH with comfortable reading chairs or loveseat, Private Bath (one with a Jacuzzi tub), 5 star amenities and fresh flowers.
  • Rates: Starting at only $149 per night. Ask about our special packages throughout the year, great for anniversary and honeymoon!!! Known by our guests as the, " Best Breakfast, Beds and Privacy in Old Nauvoo."
  • $30 for extra guest.
  • Rate includes gourmet breakfast, candlelight evening dessert and 5-star amenities Our menu is coordinated by a leading New York chief and all food presentation features exceptional attention to detail!
  • Accommodations are offered to adults age 18 and over.
  • A deposit of one nights' stay is required in advance in order to hold a room for one or more nights.
  • If a guest cancels within 20 days, a $40.00 fee is retained from the deposit. No refund if canceled with 72 hours. A confirmation card will be sent to you as soon as we receive your deposit.
  • Payment is excepted by cash, travelers check or credit card.
  • German and Japanese is spoken.
  • Monogrammed bathrobes are provided and available for purchase.
  • Cable Television, DVD, plus video, stereo, local telephone and air conditioning.
  • For the comfort of all our guests, no pets are allowed.
  • Smoking or consumption of alcoholic beverages is not permitted.
  • Accommodations will not be offered to persons appearing intoxicated

Re-enactment :Elder John Taylor & his wife Leonora
Step Back into the 1840?s and Meet two of Nauvoo?s Most Prominent Citizens and experience living history! Elder John Taylor & His Wife, Leonora Dressed in detailed period clothing, this re-enactment features approximately an hour-long presentation followed by a ?Question and Answer? Period. Leonora discusses in detail Women?s 1840?s Fashion, while John relates, through drama and song, the story of their Early Lives in England . Their courtship and marriage . Life in Old Nauvoo . Their joys and sorrows-including the Martyrdom of the Prophet Joseph. An Honorarium for this very special presentation is charged in 2006 currency.
