Blue Heron Inn

The Inn is easily accessible to wheelchair users and slow walkers via a gently sloping ramp located to the left of the main entrance. The entrance door into the inn is 33 inches wide. Accessible parking is available at the foot of the ramp. The main entrance is accessible via two sets of two stairs separated by a landing.

The grounds have gently sloping grass suitable for wheelchairs and walkers. Access to the riverbank would be difficult without assistance.

Accessibility Inside the Inn

There is barrier-free access to the entire first floor of the Inn including the great room, dining room, foyer, powder room, and three guest rooms. The powder room has a raised toilet, grab bars and a 33 ¾ inch wide doorway. The Inn’s porches, overlooking the river, are accessible from the first floor through sliding glass doors that are 28 ¾ inches wide.

Accessible Guest Rooms

The Bunkhouse Room
The Bunkhouse Room, on the first floor, was designed with the wheelchair user in mind. This room features a queen size bed and 33 ¾ inch wide doorways. The bed is 31 inches high with 9 inch clearance underneath. The spacious bathroom has a large roll-in shower with a ½” high raised threshold and a hand held shower. There are grab bars around the shower and the raised toilet. Furniture can be removed from the rooms upon request. Spring, Fall, Winter $99; Summer (6/1-9/30) $119

The Southfork Room
The first floor Southfork Room is a perfect choice for guests who don’t climb stairs. There is level access to the entire room. The queen size bed is 30 inches high with 7 inch clearance underneath. The bathroom has a combination tub/shower with a short grab bar and a shower chair can be provided with advance notice. There are no other specific access features of the room; however, some furniture can be removed if more room is needed. It is not a good choice for wheelchair users as it has standard width doorways. The Bluebird Room
The Bluebird Room is also a good choice for guests who have difficulty with stairs. There is level access to the entire room and the double bed is 30 inches high with 8 ¾ inch clearance underneath. The bathroom has a shower with a 6 ½ inch high threshold and a standard height toilet. It is not a good choice for wheelchair users as it has standard width doorways.
