Our prayers and thoughts are with all of the victims and the recovery efforts.
The B&Bs listed below are located in the Gulf Coast areas of Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama where Hurricane Katrina landed and Texas and Lousiana where Hurricane Rita landed. Below you will see the "status" of the B&Bs that we have heard from. As we contact and hear from more B&Bs in the affected area we will post their "status".

Good News! - Several B&Bs in New Orleans have re-opened! Most of the B&Bs in New Orleans are located in either the French Quarter or Garden District which are on higher ground than the rest of the city. Because they are built on higher ground they received little or no flooding after the levees broke.
Now that public utility services (water, electricity, gas, etc.) are being restored these B&Bs are again welcoming guests to the Big Easy.

Montrose Hideaway Bed-and-Breakfast Retreat - Fairhope, AlabamaWe were extremely fortunate and spared from any real damage by the storm. We had some tree damage, but that has been dealt with, restoring our 10-acre property to a beautiful oasis from the blue-tarped roofs. We are especially glad to be providing a place of renewal for so many from along the Gulf Coast who have lost so much but who are finding our tranquil setting just what they need to escape the piles of rubble.

Elysian Fields Inn - New Orleans, LouisianaAs many of you know we were waiting for our natural gas service to be restored so that we could open the Inn. We now have our natural gas service and the Inn will reopen for business Monday, November 7, 2005. We are so happy to be able to open and once again share the city we love with the Nation and the World.
We are still busy here repairing damage from the storm. Thankfully most of the damage was confined to the outside of the Inn.
I am increasingly angry with the medias reporting on the situation here. Yes, there is terrible destruction from the pan-handle of Florida to the Texas coast but the rebuilding is going forward with great strides and the areas in New Orleans that are most visited by our out of town guest have not been destroyed. The famous restaurants and clubs are either open for business or getting ready to shortly. Check out WWOZs updated club list http://www.wwoz.org/clubs.php and famous restaurant critic Tom Fitzmorris site for an up-to-the -minute list of open restaurants http://www.nomenu.com/RestaurantsOpen.html. To check on events, festivals and museum go to http://www.neworleansonline.com/katrina/index.html
New Orleans and Elysian Fields Inn is ready for your visit and there will be plenty for you to do! (11/7/2005)

Our prayers are with those who have suffered such devastation and destruction. (10/19/2005)

Oak Shade Bed & Breakfast - Ocean Springs, MississippiMiraculously Oak Shade survived Katrina. It is inexplicable because
the lovely brick home across the street took nearly two feet of water.
The homes 100 feet to either side of us suffered enormous damage; one is literally broken in two and will be demolished.
Oak Shade has housed five homeless families and 28 individuals since Katrinas arrival. These folks have come and gone and were so grateful for a place to stay until they could find housing or move elsewhere. Many of the individuals were volunteers who came to the Gulf Coast to help in whatever way they could. For some weeks now I have been able to rent rooms to FEMA folk, insurance adjustors, phone company and hospital people, educators and one set of tourists who came to the Peter Anderson Festival this past weekend.
Ocean Springs residents know how lucky and blessed we are. Even so we
took an enormous hit and the devastation is still unbelievable to me. I just stand and gawk anytime I walk or drive anywhere. I served as EOC Commnd Post Director in the immediate aftermath of Katrina. Like everyone, life has never been quite so crazy, hectic and meaningful as have these days.
