| We are conveniently located between Hilo and the Volcanoes National Park in the tropical Puna area, close to Pahoa, in Leilani Estates. Lush and tropical vegetation, wonderful parks, the experience of ancient and new lava flows and the Pacific Ocean make this area so special. Our Hawaii B & B is only minutes away from new lava flowing plunging into the ocean, thermally heated hot ponds (Ahalanui Park), beautiful coastal parks (MacKenzie Park, Isaac Hale Park), Kapoho tidepools for snorkeling, Lava Tree Park, Kehena Black Sand Beach, old Kalapana (covered by lava in 1990) and steam vents in an area full of history. The charming town of Pahoa is only 3 miles away and offers a selection of very good restaurants, stores, and galleries. Hilo, the island's capital still has its south-pacific ambience with historic buildings and beautiful views of Mauna Kea and Hilo Bay.. |

| Hale Makamae Bed & Breakfast is surrounded by two acres of beautiful lush gardens with tropical flowers, fruit trees, native Ohia forest, lava caves and many palm trees. The house and our suites are decorated with tropical flower arrangements and orchids. Hale Makamae is a licensed and quality inspected Bed & Breakfast with a great reputation and wonderful guest feedback. |

Our three tasteful and comfortable guest suites, Makamae Studio, Garden Suite and Lanai Suite, look out into our garden of tropical beauty. All of our suites offer separate entrances and private bathrooms. Their bright, airy and spacious ambience will make your stay pleasant and enjoyable. Our rates are between $90 and $140 per night (double occupancy) and include our breakfast. A wonderful gourmet island breakfast is served every morning at 8a.m. in our cozy breezeway. Breakfast offers a variety of fruits, meats, cheeses, eggs, cereals, jams, breads, pancakes or French toast. Kona coffee, tea, juice and milk complete your selection. The breakfast room is a perfect place for our orchids to grow and you will see why the Big Island is also called the Orchid Isle. |

We have traveled to many countries and stayed in small hotels, bed & breakfasts and other accommodations. As a result of our own travel experience we are happy to offer our guests a high standard of comfort, quality and service. As we now have settled down and have a family of our own, we welcome everybody including families and we know, what it takes to make your stay a wonderful experience. We know the Big Island of Hawaii well and can give you many suggestions and tips on what to do and where to go. We are looking forward to your stay with us and we hope you will enjoy this beautiful corner of the world as much as we do. Petra is originally from Germany and John from the US East Coast. We moved back to Hawaii in 1997 and have been on the Big Island since 1999. Both of us speak English and German. |
