Welcome to Darien, Georgia and McIntosh County

The Darien Welcome Center, located on the Waterfront Park on the Darien River, has been welcoming visitors to the area for over 30 years. This beautiful park has a boardwalk where the shrimp boat fleets dock, picnic tables and public docks for fishing where the Blessing of the Fleet festival is held annually. This should be your first stop in the area where you can pick up a wealth of information for the attractions in the area, restaurant guides, and more. Other points of interest and things to do include:

  • Fort King George Historic Site
  • Sapelo Island
  • Harris Neck Wildlife Refuge
  • The Smallest Church in America
  • Butler Island Rice Plantation
  • Nature Lovers Paradise: Explore the amazing the Altamaha River winding through cypress swamps and tidal marshes. Explore the maritime forest and remote beaches of Georgia's barrier islands with a dolphin or kayak tour.
  • Fisherman's and Boater's Paradise: The abundance of rivers, such as the Altamaha and many others and the proximity to the ocean has attracted sportsmen to the area for years.
  • Golfing: Enjoy the cool breezes and majestic live oaks of McIntosh County with a round of golf at an area golf course, such as Sapelo Hammock and Coastal Pines Golf Club and other area courses.
