Guests of the 1842 Inn will be happy to know just how close they are to all of Macon’s area attractions. Like the 1842 Inn, Georgia’s central city has much to offer – numerous historic sites, halls of fame, diverse museums, shopping and much more!

  • Georgia Music Hall of Fame: The 43,000 square foot museum features an extravaganza of music memorabilia of over 450 Georgia artists, videos, interactive exhibits and hospitality with a Georgia accent. Allow one to two hours to see the museum.
  • Georgia Sports Hall of Fame: Educational and interactive exhibits honor heroes from the state's top high school, collegiate, professional and amateur athletic fields such as record home run hitter Henry "Hank" Aaron and football legend turned sports announcer Fran Tarkenton.
  • Museum of Arts & Sciences: The Museum of Arts & Sciences serves a regional audience of all ages and many interests. It is a community resource for life long learning and enrichment which seeks to engage its visitors, to evoke wonder, stimulate curiosity, and open minds to new worlds of discovery.
  • Cannonball House: A Greek Revival House built in 1853, this was the only house in Macon struck by a cannonball during a Federal attack in 1864. Restored with furnishings of the period. Headquarters, Sidney Lanier Chapter UDC. Open to the public. Gift shop carries Southern, Macon, Georgia and Civil War merchandise.
  • The Hay House: This Italian Renaissance Revival Mansion, built in the 1850's, is a National Historic Landmark. Over 18,000 square feet, 24 rooms decorated with museum pieces make it "The Palace of the South." Available for catered functions and guided tours. Museum shop.
  • Ocmulgee National Monument: Climb ancient Indian mounds, visit inside a ceremonial earth-lodge, hike along nature trails and study archaeological remains dating back 10,000 years.
  • City of Macon Parks & Recreation: Macon is a city with a rich cultural heritage and strong vision for the future. Macon offers the amenities of a small friendly city with the advantages of a growing city.
  • The Douglass Theatre: True to it's historic reputation as a magnet for the entire community, "The Douglass" draws widely-varied audiences for it's High Definition 3D visual display, limited run and premier films as well as for the it's national-quality performance events.
  • The Grand Opera House: Built in 1884, the Grand features one of the largest stages in the South. The Grand has seen stars such as Will Rodgers, Sarah Bernhardt, Houdini and more. Still active with theatre events. Admission Charged. A performing Arts Center of Mercer University.
  • Theatre Macon: Seven yearly productions. Stage Two Season has weekend productions: one act plays, poetry readings, cabaret acts and more.
  • Macon Symphony Orchestra: Celebrate the 25th anniversery of hte Macon Symphony Orchestra!
  • Heart of Georgia Barbershop Chorus: The chorus name is the Heart of Georgia Chorus. The chapter is a part of the ever popular and growing Dixie District. We are entering our 42nd year of service for Macon and the surrounding area.
  • Macon Little Theatre: The Macon Little Theatre is of the people, by the people and for the people, and its object is to promote the drama and related arts and to become a real community asset through its efforts.
  • Macon Arts Alliance: The Macon Arts Alliance (MAA) serves as the arts council for Macon and Bibb County. Its mission is to promote involvement in and access to the arts through funding, advocacy, coordination and education.
