The Inn is in the center of Clayton where a hotel has stood since the 1880's. The present building was built of reinforced concrete in 1946 and was designated Civil Defense Center for Rabun County. The Inn served film crews during the filming of Deliverance, the Great Locomotive Chase, and other movies, and the Inn serves as HQ for whitewater rafting on the Chattooga Wild and Scenic River. The area abounds with every outdoor activity including golf at 5 courses, trout fishing, hiking, bird watching, and mountain driving and exploring 3 state parks, Tallulah Gorge, and many sites for shopping, antiques, and mountain clothing.
