A variety of experiences await any guest as the inn is a mere two minute drive to Hunter Mountain Ski Resort, and borders Catskill Park's 300,000 acres of protected public land, including 98 peaks of more than 3000 feet, waterfalls, streams, lakes and fire towers. The area is steep in history being a resort and tourist destination since the early 19th century. Washington Irving's Rip Van Winkle tale was inspired here, as were landscape artists Thomas Cole and Frederick Church. Grand Hotels such as the Catskill Mountain House (visited by three U.S. presidents and the power elite of the day when in its prime) once spanned the mountainside.
Legend has it, Rip Van Winkle fell asleep beside his gun and awakened twenty years later to find that he had grown a long beard, his gun rusted and his dog was gone. Like Rip, this area is awakening after a long slumber. Ongoing projects have created a buzz, tourism continues to increase and the community effort has been publicized in the New York Times and Ladies Home Journal (November 2003) and featured on NBC's Today Show, CNBC, and many of the local networks. Invest in this flourishing community!
