This beautifully furnished, English Tudor Revival home is situated on more than three acres in the heart of downtown Vicksburg. Also known as the Craig-Flowers Home, this massive, three-story, 14,000 square foot structure features an ornately carved staircase of American Walnut, original stained glass windows, lighting, and J.L. Mott Company bath fixtures. Its original stables and servants quarters also remain. The Home is on the National Register of Historic Places. During the 1898 yellow fever epidemic the W. C. Craig family had several deaths, including two of their children. They lived in Yazoo City which was hard hit by the epidemic. Mr. Craig, a wealthy cotton broker, chose to move to Vicksburg, which seemed safer. In 1901, the Craig's purchased the antebellum home of John Wesley Vick, son of the founder of Vicksburg. The property consisted of three acre lot, two-story brick house, and several outbuildings. The Craig's engaged W. W. Knowles, a prominent New York architect, to design an appropriate home for their family, which consisted of Mr. and Mrs. Craig, three sons, and two daughters. The living area for the family contained seven bedrooms (one for guests) and five bathrooms. The servants area consisted of four rooms on the third floor with bathroom and the work area with bathroom in the basement. The entrance hall, drawing room, hunt room, library, dining room and kitchen made up the remainder of the approximately 14,000 sq. ft.. The Vick home was torn down and materials from the house were used in the construction of the Carriage House and two-story Coachmen's house on the rear of the property. The Carriage House has space for two carriages and stalls for four horses. The Coachmen's house has been totally renovated and now is a two bedroom, two bath house.
