Pre-Civil-War!! Built in 1849, Victorian Gothic Revival. Grist Mill on property built in 1725 still has original grist stones.

Circa 1849, Edgewood Plantation is located on historic John Tyler Highway in Charles City County, VA just 30 minutes from Williamsburg and Richmond. Originally part of Berkeley Plantation, Edgewood was built on land purchased from Benjamin Harrison of Berkeley Plantation by Spencer Rowland of New Jersey. Edgewood was built near Harrison’s Mill constructed in 1725 and still remains standing with the original mill stones in tact. Both structures survived the Civil War mainly because the mill provided food for soldiers. The house served as a church for its parishioners when Westover Episcopal Church was used as a stable during the war.

Edgewood Plantation, built in the “Carpenter Gothic Revival” style, is a private residence that operates as a B&B hosting tours, weddings, teas and small corporate events. It presently sits on 4 acres surrounded by 300 acres of land owned by The Department of Interior. Edgewood consists of three stories and an English basement. Over 7000 square feet offer 7 bedrooms, 6 ½ baths, 10 fireplaces, double parlor, dining room, impressive double spiral staircase, original windows and heart pine flooring throughout. Also on the property is a 2 bedroom, 3 bath cottage. Pool and pool house offer just a few of the modern conveniences that make this property so unique without disturbing its historical integrity.

Three United States Presidents came from Charles City County. Charles City is steeped in Civil War and Colonial history! To the west is Richmond, the state capital of Virginia and the site of the capital of the confederacy during the civil war. To the east lies Colonial Williamsburg, the home of the College of William and Mary, Yorktown, which played a major role in the Revolutionary War and Jamestown, where the first colonists landed and established the first colony.
