Situated on Palm Avenue in the luxurious downtown bay front district of Sarasota rests this 1924 historically designated two-story Craftsman style home. Nestled in oak trees overlooking the tranquil waters of Sarasota Bay where your troubles are swept away in this exquisitely appointed home. From your private oasis, stroll down Palm Avenue to the art galleries, fine shopping boutiques, superb dining, theater, opera or the famous Burns Court Cinema.
The current residence at 624 South Palm Avenue was built in the early 1920's. It was built on the southeast corner of the property occupied by the former Thompson residence, which was occupied by Mrs. W.Y. Perry, in the early 1920's.
Mrs. W. Y. Perry was a local civic leader and wife of the Sarasota County's first county judge. Mrs. Perry was instrumental in the establishment of the Newtown Day Nursery; she served as President of the Sarasota Hospital Guild and was active in the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer.
In April of 1925 Mrs. Perry subdivided the property of the old Thompson Residence and the home at 624 South Palm Avenue. Mrs. Perry lived at 624 South Palm Avenue until the late 1930's, since that date the home was occupied by county Judge Paul Albritton and then Mrs. Owen Burns.
The "Perry Residence", at 624 South Palm Avenue possesses many architectural features, which are of note for their style and craftsmanship. The structure is associated with families important in the development of Sarasota. The structure is a of a scale and proportion that enhances the pedestrian aspect of Palm Avenue, which is historical times was lined with large homes. 624 South Palm Avenue was not identified in the 1977 Sarasota Historic and Architectural Survey. Based on these considerations of the architectural merit, historical association and contribution the urban setting the structure has since been designated a historic property.
