Introduction
The Dickens House Bed and Breakfast in St. Petersburg, Florida, offers you the opportunity to enjoy Craftsman "bungalow" style - warm, comfortable and rich in detail, but without clutter and fuss.
Artfully hidden within this restored home is everything necessary to accommodate modern business and vacation needs.
Henry and Sadie (Speer) Dickens were among St. Petersburg's early settlers, arriving in 1900 to take their place among the city's social and business elite. In 1912, they built this Arts & Crafts style home in the city's newly burgeoning residential district, adjacent to the downtown. That neighborhood has become Saint Petersburg's historic Old Northeast section.
The Dickens House was purchased in 1995 by proprietor and mural artist Ed Caldwell, who immediately began a patient four-year restoration project, with the goal of retaining the...
... warmth and comfort of the Craftsman style, while also accommodating the needs of both contemporary business travelers and vacationers in the St. Petersburg B&B.
We are located on a quiet avenue of historic and vintage homes within an easy walk of scenic waterfront parks, a beach, lighted tennis courts, Olympic-sized pool and fine shopping and dining. If walking is your pleasure, a leisurely waterfront stroll will take you to the Pier or to downtown St. Petersburg, FL.
As another sunny Florida day greets you, you may take breakfast on the verandah, join others at the dining room table, or perhaps settle into the kitchen breakfast booth. After you have had your fill, a day of discovery on St. Petersburg's lovely Florida Suncoast is ready to unfold.
The day's events may be celebrated and shared at an afternoon welcome-home gathering of guests in the lodge-style Arts and Crafts living room of the bed and breakfast.
In addition to many near-by St. Petersburg attractions, there are many attractions in Central Florida to which day trips can readily be made from downtown St. Petersburg.
