The Aaron Shipman House has been a feature home on the annual Logan Circle "Victorian Christmas" house tour. Articles about the home have appeared in Washington Garden Magazine, The Washington Post, The Philadelphia Inquirer and most recently, featured in the Washingtonian Magazine. We are rated "Highest Quality" and "Best Value" by Frommer's Washington DC guide book and are included in 101 Great Choices- Washington, by Jan Aaron.
Choose the Victorian charm of the Historic Aaron Shipman Bed and Breakfast for your next trip to Washington DC, for sightseeing, business or both. The home is centrally located in the Logan Circle Historic District, at 13th and Q. Streets. Logan Circle is 6 blocks, 15-minute walk east of Dupont Circle, and north and slightly east of the White House by 10 blocks. Washington's new Convention Center is a 5-7 minute walk, and 2 stops on the Metro, or 15-minute walk. The National Mall and Smithsonian Museum's are a short ride on the Metro or city bus.
This gracious Victorian home was built by John Shipman in 1887 as his personal residence. The house has been lovingly and extensively restored by its present owners. The interior features original wood paneling, stained glass windows, a player piano, art nouveau and authentic Victorian decoration and antique furnishings. Several working fireplaces in the common areas as well as in one guest room add to the ambiance. The house is highly decorated in the holiday season, and was also part of "Christmas at the Smithsonian".
Unusual to the city, the home features large outdoor area including a Victorian-style lattice porch, landscaped formal gardens with fountains, and bricked patio area. The formal English style garden with, brick pillared grape arbor has been the sight of numerous weddings and private parties. Once you experience the warm and friendly lodging of a bed and breakfast, you'll never want to book a hotel or motel again. A bed and Breakfast offers the personal friendly touch of family style living. It's more than just a room to sleep in.

Breakfast is served family style in the elegant formal dining room, 8am weekdays and 9am weekends. Enjoy a hearty breakfast, while meeting other guests from all over the world. Lively conversations between guests frequently include discussion about sightseeing adventures in the city and where home is. German pancakes, Bacon and Eggs, Croissant French Toast, or gourmet omelets, specially prepared by your host are just some of the selections offered.

You get to sit down and have an actual home cooked breakfast as a guest of the Reeds with other interesting people who are visiting Washington D.C. at the same time. Staying at a Bed an Breakfast is just plain fun and often less expensive than a hotel room. If you've never stayed at a Bed and Breakfast before, staying in Washington D.C. with Charles and Jackie Reed is a good place to start. You'll never find lodging at a hotel or motel room this luxurious at a price that's affordable.
Logan Circle, just north of the White House
There are six guest rooms, all antique filled and thoughtfully decorated with designer furnishings. All rooms include wireless Internet access, telephone extension and color television with local access.
The second floor features a guestroom with a queen sized bed and a private hall bath. There is an additional small room furnished with a double sized bed, across the hall. These two rooms can be rented together to accommodate up to 4 guests. In this case, the hall bath is private to your party, but shared between the two rooms.
The third floor has five guestrooms. There are two rooms, each furnished with a single queen-sized bed and private bath. One guestroom features a queen sized, twin sized day bed, and private bath. This room also has a decorative fireplace.
The two remaining rooms include the Jacuzzi room, furnished with a carved antique queen-sized bed, sitting area, decorative fireplace and private bath with 2-person whirlpool tub. Lastly, for the economy-minded traveler there is a very small room with a double sized bed and private hall bath. All guestrooms include complimentary hot cooked breakfast each morning.
The Aaron Shipman House also has a self-contained, furnished apartment. The unit features a bedroom with a queen-sized bed, full bath and a living room with queen-sized sleeper sofa, and a working fireplace. There is a dining nook and fully equipped galley kitchen with full sized stove, refrigerator, dishwasher, microwave and coffee maker. The apartment also includes laundry facilities, wireless Internet, private line telephone and 52" Television with cable. All bed and bath linens are provided. While the apartment is cleaned prior to arrival, breakfast and daily housekeeping are not included. (Note: Between the dates of 7/1/2009 and 9/30/2009, the small room is a shared bath, as the owners Granddaughter will be visiting, and staying in a separate room. Rates for those dates are reflective of the shared bath).
