The House
Built speculatively in 1900, the Embassy Circle Guest House was originally a grand private home. It has a beautiful entry hall, spacious rooms, high ceilings, ornate decorative plaster and wood moldings, a grand staircase and wonderful landings with pillars, arches and arched niches. During its long history, the house has been a private home (approximately 20 years), a vestry for a local church (approximately 20 years), and an Embassy of China (Taiwan) property (approximately 55 years). When we purchase the house in 2003, it had been abandoned for almost 15 years, and had been open to the elements much of that time. The building was in extremely poor condition and had suffered both extensive water and fire damage. Over a 3 ½ year period, Raymond and a team of dedicated craftsmen lovingly restored the house to its former beauty, going to extraordinary lengths to find, replicate and finally re-sculpt and mold some of the original decorative elements.
Our Guests
If you agree that one of the greatest benefits of traveling the world is meeting interesting people, you will especially enjoy the Embassy Circle Guest House. The Guest House is a conversation-friendly environment. Conversations are encouraged and they are wide-ranging and spirited. Laura, Raymond and the staff of the guest house get to know each guest by name and introduce guests to each other so that everyone feels free to participate in the conversation if they wish to do so.
