Introduction
The Tolland Inn stands on the historic Tolland town
green, surrounded by Colonial to Victorian era homes, two museums, the
Homestead gift store, our Town hall, old courthouse and the
almost mandatory Congregational Church.
Our building goes back to the late 1700s, built as a private residence but
expanded a hundred years ago to add guest rooms for the innkeeping.
Innkeepers, Susan and Steve Beeching bought the home in 1985 from the estate
of the last registered guests of the old inn. Two years later they emerged from a mountain
of horsehair plaster, took a deep breath, and opened the Tolland Inn.
The Inn now has seven guest rooms and suites, all with private baths, an a
few carefully chosen modern conveniences.* Two of our suites have
handmade queen canopy beds. One has a sitting room with a Vermont Castings
gas fireplace and a two-person hot tub; the other has a bedroom fireplace,
sitting area, a full bath with antique ball-and-claw tub, and a separate
shower. Our first floor luxury room has a private entrance, queen canopy
bed, fireplace and a two-person hot tub in the private bathroom. Our
latest and most ambitious project, The Pacific Suite, has two full rooms,
both with the original chestnut beam ceilings. Steve has designed a
dramatic king-size canopy bed for the bedroom. The sitting room has a
queen-size couch, table and chairs. The central gas fireplace is seen from
both the bedroom and the sitting room. We have hidden a two-person hot tub
in an alcove room off the sitting room side of the suite. Private bath,
of course!
*cable television vcr, air conditioning, individual heat controls,
telephones in all rooms.
The Pacific Guest Suite
In addition to the guest rooms and suites, the Tolland Inn features three common
rooms: a formal parlor, dining room, and the two-level sunporch which contains
a huge Rumford fireplace for chilly mornings and evenings.
Wonderful breakfasts are served each day at the cherry trestle table in the dining
room or on the sunporch. Enjoy fresh fruit, muffins, specialty scones or granola
to complement main dishes of Belgian Waffles, French toast, baked omelettes,
and seasonal treats!
