The Scotland
In 1862, Captain Stannard took command of the daring Scotland, the first steamship to ply between China and San Francisco. The Scotland Buoy, named for the steamship Scotland, is part of the triangle formed by the Ambrose Channel Buoy and the Ambrose Light Tower, which is the area of highest congestion in the approaches to New York.
