Introduction
The Cornucopia at Oldfield is Southbury's premire bed and breakfast. An exceptional example of Georgian Federal architecture, circa 1818, Cornucopia at Oldfield is set on acres of rolling green lawns framed by majestic maples and original stone walls. The home is in Southbury's Historic District and has been published in various works, including Wallace Nutting's, "Connecticut Beautiful." It is alive with history and provides its guests with many wonderful surprises such as the hand painted picture of the house hidden on the "preacher cupboard" door.
Innkeepers Christine and Ed Edelson bring the magic of Oldfield to life for their guests. Guests look forward to walking around the grounds or sitting by the secluded swimming pool. The swimming pool is open seasonally. Your hosts enjoy acting as your concierge and delight in helping you plan a day or a week of activities. Reservations are made, maps are provided and Cornucopia at Oldfield activities (breakfast/wine & cheese) are arranged with your schedule in mind.
The Cornucopia at Oldfield B&B is convenient to Connecticut's many antique centers in Woodbury and surrounding towns, nature preserves with extensive hiking (cross-country) trails including Audubon's Bent of the River Sanctuary, beautiful lakes, local private schools, regional colleges, Heritage Village, and corporate headquarters. Nearby are historic homes and museums, cultural museums, art galleries, excellent restaurants, community theaters and shopping.
The Cornucopia at Oldfield is also ideal for
family events such as weddings, anniversaries, reunions, birthdays and other celebrations. Country elegance permeates every room of this grand old house, while providing 21st century amenities, such as wireless internet, digit cable TV with DVD and video, and CD players in every room. The Public Rooms provide guests with wonderful places to visit with one another, to sit by the fire, to read a book, or to just sit back and unwind.
The Formal Dining Room provides the setting for the country breakfast, which varies each morning as your hosts strive to delight your palette. It also provides the perfect setting for a private business meeting or a romantic dinner (with special arrangements).
The Keeping Room provides plenty of space to relax, read and enjoy digital cable television, movies, and board games. Wine is offered to allow our guests time to wind down from the day and prepare for dinner in one of our area restaurants. Peruse the local menus and establish new friendships while enjoying a selection of wines.
The Front Parlor is a more formal, yet comfortable room, a quiet place to read by the fireplace. The second floor contains a desk for quiet contemplation as well as a library of books, CD's and DVD's and magazines.

According to Webster the word cornucopia means abundance. Our home reflects this abundance in many ways but most significantly in the beautiful grounds and gardens that have been carefully maintained over the years. We encourage our guests to share in this abundance by strolling through the gardens, sitting on the park bench in front of the lily pond, reading in the shade of the gazebo, napping in the old fashioned hammock, or relaxing at the very secluded and understated pool.
