Telluride is the most populous town of San Miguel County in the southwestern portion of Colorado. This charming city is a well-known tourist destination and offers many things to do. If you are staying at a Telluride bed and breakfast or ski lodge, you can easily explore all this town has to offer. Every summer The Telluride Jazz Festival creates a wonderful atmosphere of music in Town Park as well as local venues during the evening. At the other end of the spectrum, the Telluride Tech Festival honors Nunn, Tesla, and Westinghouse, along with today’s leaders in science and technology. Then there’s the Telluride mining history to explore. Mining was Telluride’s only industry up until 1972. The most famous historic sites are the Tomboy, Pandora, Smuggler-Union, Nellie, and Sheridan mines. But when the first ski lift was installed by the Telluride Ski Corporation, several decades ago, it turned the mining community into a snow-lover’s paradise. Today, many ski resorts and businesses dot the area. If you are in town to hit the slopes, a Telluride B&B or Telluride inn makes for the ideal setting. When it’s time to eat, Telluride doesn’t disappoint either. Cosmopolitan Telluride is a fine-dining restaurant, but also casual enough for a relaxing meal after skiing the trails. Another excellent dining choice comes by way of the Excelsior Café. It’s great for families but also offers a respectable wine list.
