Located in the Upper Arkansas River Valley, Salida, Colorado is below the Continental Divide in the Banana Belt. Boasting 12 Peaks over 14,000 feet in elevation, Salida is known for its hiking, whitewater rafting, mountain biking, and skiing. Salida is also famous for its hot springs, fly fishing, and zipline tours. Being that downtown Salida is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, it has a fine collection of significant buildings. It is actually Colorado's largest historic district. When you stay at a Salida bed and breakfast, a walking tour of the downtown district is a great thing to explore on a day trip. The local history is especially intriguing. Plus, according to Sunset Magazine, Salida was named "Best Arts Community" in the west. Visitors to Salida's downtown district will find a wide array of galleries set in historically significant buildings. The eclectic galleries exhibit stimulating works by local artists, sculptors, jewelers, potters, and goldsmiths. While in town to see the studio sights, stop by the Coyote Cantina for a bit of the Wild West and stunning views of the Collegiate Peaks of the Rocky Mountains. Don't forget to check out Bongo Billy's Buena Vista Cafe for great espresso, tea, baked goods, breakfast and lunch, and fresh roasted bulk coffees. These are but a sampling of all the great options available for Salida B&B patrons or those staying at a Salida inn or lodge.
