Introduction
Secluded Beauty ~ Romantic Getaway ~ History Abounds
Welcome to a secluded and peaceful old Colorado Getaway
Located twelve miles northwest of Trinidad, Chicosa Canyon Bed and Breakfast is a 100 year old native stone home situated on 64 acres in the canyon for which it is named. Relax in country charm and experience old fashioned western hospitality as you discover the secrets of the Anasazi and Apache, coal miners, pioneers and cowboys who chiseled history into the sandstone canyon walls. The original stone home was built in 1885 by W.C. Riggs, who homesteaded the ranch in 1870. Interestingly enough, the canyon walls bear the names of Mr. and Mrs. Riggs and other family members. Adding to the historical significance of the property, diaries kept by Mr. Riggs indicate that many notable characters of the West spent time at the ranch.
Chicosa Canyon Bed & Breakfast is now part of the Colorado Birding Trail, please call for details.
In addition to exploring the rich history of the area, you'll have the opportunity to enjoy simple pleasures such as waking to the sound of singing birds, strolling near the old barn to watch the grazing horses, reading a book in the sunny solarium, or just sitting on the patio gazing at the peaceful canyon views, You can enjoy a soothing soak in the hot tub or spend a cool evening sitting by a crackling fire! Enjoy sitting outside in the evening and watch for a shooting star or pick out your favorite constellation. There are roads and trails near the property to hike or bike, and horse boarding facilities are available with many opportunities for scenic rides.
