Introduction

The Manor House, now a Cripple Creek bed & breakfast, operated as Cripple Creek High School until 1975. The historic building is the only surviving school building out of five original Cripple Creek schools. In 1983, after sitting dormant for eight years, Ted Heyliger and his wife Delores purchased the property and began the task of renovation.

Twenty years later, the Ledford family purchased the property and has nearly completed the process of a full restoration and reconstruction of the 14 rooms and has just completed 2 additional luxury suites, a conference center and a Grand Ballroom. Rooms in the Manor will all have theme names and historic reflections of times gone past.

Carr Manor's rooms are fully remodeled with ceiling paddle fans, Sealy Posturpedic mattresses, cable TV, private telephones with personal voice mail, high speed wireless internet, hair dryers, and deluxe personal amenities. Some rooms also feature mountain views.

Cripple Creek High School was built in two phases. The southern 60 feet of the school were built in 1897 with the northern portion built in 1905. It served as one of two Cripple Creek schools for nearly 70 years. For the new owners, Gary and Wini Ledford, Cripple Creek High School is a study in history. Carr Manor symbolizes the love of the mining district’s 1890’s gold rush history and that of two Carr Families, whose life long stories have become a lesson the school will expound upon and for whom the new business the schoolhouse Inn is named.
