rave reviews and repeat visits...
Built more than a century ago in 1854 by the city founder for his bride, the Shaw House Inn was the first post office and courthouse. It is now the oldest structure in Ferndale and the oldest B&B in California. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places and modeled after Hawthorn's famous house of seven gables, this Carpenter Gothic Revival is a rare find with its jutting gables, balconies, and bay windows.
Over twenty-five varieties of mature trees, including Redwoods, Dogwoods, Willows, Walnuts, Maples, fruit trees and our most impressive, the ancient California Buckeye, make this the city's largest landscape. Our guests appreciate the tranquility and privacy provided by these magnificent grounds which are a sanctuary for wildlife, yet are still within walking distance to town.
Your comfort at the Shaw House Inn is assured in eight relaxing guest rooms, each with a private bath and a unique collection of antiques. Three rooms feature private balconies, perfect for watching the sun rise or set. Four rooms are especially suited to solitude with the added privacy of their own separate entrances. A visit to our three beautifully decorated parlors offers a quiet place to meet and relax. After a restful sleep in one of our quiet guest rooms, enjoy a delicious hot breakfast served at 8:30 a.m. Our breakfasts get rave reviews. Fresh fruit and flowers garnish each morning's culinary treat created by our innkeepers and designed to tempt you. "If there was ever a more spiritual place, I haven't been there". "What a splendid place to stay! The warmth of yesteryear is surely present". - Guest
