The Inn opened in 1980 as Santa Barbara's first bed and breakfast. Located within a block of beautiful East Beach, the Inn is housed in two historic homes. The original house is a California Craftsman built in 1912 on the beach on Cabrillo Blvd. In the 1920's it was used as the Santa Barbara Yacht Club when their clubhouse was washed out to sea in an unusual winter storm. The house was moved to its current location in 1928. It is the only bed and breakfast in Santa Barbara with a beach location. The house was lovingly restored in 1980 and has been completely upgraded over the years it has been used as the Inn. The Inn was expanded with the addition of the Hitchcock House next door in 1983. Both homes are comfortably furnished with antiques, Oriental rugs, colorful fabrics and wallpapers that capture the warm hospitality that is the trademark of the innkeepers themselves. All rooms have telephones and private bathrooms, some with whirlpool tubs. Enjoy a room with a balcony, patio or private deck to e take in the outdoors from your room. |

In the evening there is a hosted social hour where guests are invited to meet and enjoy wine and beverages. Fresh flowers and a decanter of sherry welcome you in all guest rooms. The Old Yacht Club House offers four sunny guest rooms upstairs plus the Captain's Corner Room downstairs with its own private deck. The Hitchcock House offers guest rooms on the ground level with private entrances. These rooms are named after the Innkeeper's families and are highlighted with historic photos and memorabilia. A separate sitting room provides space for relaxing and enjoying the serenity of Santa Barbara. This room is a treat for honeymooners, anniversaries, birthdays or any occasion, for that matter! |

Dining at the Inn is a memorable experience. Awaken in the morning to the smell of freshly-brewed coffee from a local coffee roaster. Enjoy a full gourmet breakfast individually prepared and served by the innkeepers in the dining room. Breakfast always includes fresh fruit and juice, an omelet or egg dish, home-baked breads or French toast or pancakes. Always available are homemade granola, oatmeal and whole grain cereals. The dining room is set up with tables where you may dine alone or with other guests. The aroma of freshly-baked cookies, breads and coffeecakes frequently permeates the Inn.

There is a large deck on the rear of the Hitchcock House where guests may enjoy the sun and fresh ocean air. The deck is often the gathering place for the social hour in the afternoon. The innkeepers serve wine and soft beverages. This is a time to meet other guests and enjoy the late afternoon hours. The menu book with information from favorite local restaurants is available, and the innkeepers will make recommendations and reservations. Freshly baked cookies are also available! Santa Barbara's beautiful East Beach is one block from the Old Yacht Club Inn Bed and Breakfast. The long, wide beach offers a large area for dining, sunning, beach volleyball, and swimming. East Beach is rated one of the world's ten best beaches (L.A. Times, August 1992), East Beach is clean and safe for swimming. Beach chairs and towels are provided to guests. The beach way runs next to the beach and is a great place to run, walk, or bike for several miles. Bikes are provided for guest use. |
