Colfax, California, is a town of about 1500 people, located in Placer County. It is just northeast of Sacramento. It is a small town whose founding dates back to the mid-19th century. Colfax has no regular festivals due to its small size, but its train station (originally the terminus of the transcontinental railroad) and downtown are considered excellent examples of Old West architecture.. The town movie theater has an ongoing display of older movie equipment, dating back to the silent movie era. The town's Community Center is one of the relatively few modern buildings in the region. The town still has regular train service that runs through the 1876 train station. Bunch Creek flows through the town, and the fishing is reportedly good. Colfax bed and breakfast’s and Colfax inns are supposedly good as well. The B&B’s get booked well in advance so make sure to make a reservation as soon as you can.
