Most of the island is made up of the Catalina Island Conservancy, which was formed to protect the areas wildlife and their habitat. Catalina Island is a tourist destination attracting a million visitors each year. It is a place for hikeres and mountain bikers to enjoy the natural environment. The annual Jazztrax Festival draws a large crowd for new Jazz musicians. Shipwrecks are a local attraction, including the Diosa del Marone, a ship which was sunk near Ship Rock in 1990. Glass bottom boats also provide a unique viewing experience, along with snorkeling in the shallow waters. Surfers find a place to try their skills on the backside of Catalina Island at Shark Harbor. Catalina also has a ton of B&B’s and Catalina inns to choose from. When choosing a Catalina bed and breakfast, it is important to find one that is close to the water.
