Oakland and Berkeley's Local Attractions

Oakland and Berkeley are close to each other and share many of the same attractions. Much of this part of the "East Bay" is only a 20-minute drive to downtown San Francisco, or a short BART or ACTransit bus ride. In a larger sense, Oakland and Berkeley are central to the Napa Valley, Sonoma and Marin Counties, Silicon Valley, Walnut Creek/Contra Costa County and the South Bay-Palo Alto area.

Both Berkeley and Oakland have a rich architectural heritage and much preservation action. The East Bay Regional Parks flank our eastern hills and our western shoreline and provide plentiful family and outdoor activities and attractions. University of California at Berkeley ("Cal" or "UCB") has several museums, the botanical gardens, Cal Performances, popular sports contests, campus sites and the Lawrence Hall of Science.

Oakland is home to Mills College, California College of Arts and Crafts, College of Holy Names and the new University of Creation Spirituality. Oakland's Museum of California and its new Chabot Observatory are outstanding entertaining and educational facilities. Local live theatre, including Berkeley Repertory Theatre, rose gardens, hill walks and historical tours enhance the lifestyle within both cities. Oakland's Jack London Square and Lake Merritt Park provide festivities throughout the year. Berkeley's Fourth Street shopping area is trendy and there are ample cafes in the many local business districts strewn throughout our quaint and convenient neighborhoods. This is a friendly, progressive; culturally diverse community in a beautiful geographical setting. Come visit!
