Seems there is alot of interest these days in cooking. Nearly every network offers a selection of cooking and food shows. An online search will yeild dozens of recipes for your favorite dish.

Why the great interest in cooking at home when our lives are getting busier? Ordering in or going out would be easier. I believe cooking and dining at home meets the need for privacy, creativity, some "down time" but most of all the need to nurture and be nurtured.

Memories are made around the table. It's the way Kenny and I grew up. Celebrating togetherness with good food and each other's company. That tradition has not changed in over a century at Triangle Ranch. We love having company and only our best will do for guests and family.

Breakfasts of Raspberry Cream French Toast, Lazy Morning Sausage Pie, Blueberry Bomb muffins or Baked Omellettes accompanied by fresh fruit and juices are served every morning here. Then there is the Dinner on the Ranch option with grilled steaks or other yummy entrees, oven-roasted vegies or homemade salads, rolls and a decadent dessert.

Well, our guests will find that the "warm, homey feeling" doesn't end with the food. They are special and we want them to feel so. Anything we are able to do to make you comfortable. Come to Triangle Ranch Bed & Breakfast for a taste of our hospitality and, oh yes, the yummy food.

Come Sit by the Fire

88 years ago Lyndy's Great Grandparent's new Sears & Roebuck home, "The Alhambra", named for it's Spanish predecessor, was finished enough for the family to move in.

It had been a long year since "Willy", Lyndy's grandfather, had hauled the 14 freight wagon loads of materials from the local railhead. Mr. Werner, the immigrant master carpenter, with blueprints in hand, framed the 2 1/2 story Mission Revival with it's ornate mission-style parapeting, installed the generous oak moldings, leaded glass cabinetry, waxing every nail that was driven into the oak flooring and crowned the bricked Craftsman style fireplace with a heavy oak mantel. As the Williams family watched from their log home nearby the steeply pitched pyramid shaped roof received it's coat of cedar shingles stained red to resemble red tiles.

On move-in day Great Grandpa laid the fire in the handsome fireplace and went out on the terrace to view the glowing picture of hearth and home throught his multi-paned french windows. This was to be his tradition every fall throughout his life.

A fire still glows in that same hearth as comfort and hospitality emminate from the old "Alhambra" at Triangle Ranch. . . . .come sit by the fire with us.

Christmas at Triangle Ranch

As I stood today for a "breather" from Open House preparations and gazed from the third stair above Grandma's elegant "landing" the Christmas memories from half a century came flooding back.

Christmas eve, in this exact spot,was my first conscious memory. My little sister and I, holding hands, stared in awe at the crackling fireplace, the sparkling chandelier and fa-a-ar across the old oak floor to the solarium where Grandma's magical Christmas tree stood all ringed about with presents.

And so it was a few years later on Christmas eve while eating our oyster stew, that my all too-grown-up cousin informed me there "really was no Santa Claus". I was crushed, but as we retired to open presents . . . . there by the fireplace was a big, brown, burlap sack and in it was a real saddle for 3 little cowgirls who still "believed." (Santa's helper had ridden horseback through 2 feet of snow to retrieve it from the postal carrier).

Every Christmas, we would sit by the fire to hear the age-old story of Christ's birth and why He came "for us" so there was never any confusion about "Santa". He was just a bonus.

A few years later I brought Kenny to our Christmas eve at Triangle Ranch to introduce him to Grandma and Grandpa. Grandpa was a little skeptical because Kenny's family raised black Angus cattle and we raised Herefords but Grandma approved because he was a school teacher like her.

Thus has been the cycle of Christmas here for 87 years from my great-grandparents to our grandchildren. Family and friends came home for Christmas and these warm walls embraced them.

The South Dakota prairie has whitened but the sun is still shining, our seven trees are twinkling with lights, wreath's at the window, Grandpa's fireplace is crackling warmly and wonderful smells waft from the kitchen. Come, experience "peace on earth" at Triangle Ranch.

Kenny and I were in the car together for the first time this summer on a short "road trip" through the South Dakota Badlands and prairies to the beautiful Black Hills. Albeit one of the purposes was a Dr. visit, it got us "out". Did a little shopping, sightseeing and visited with friends . . . . . what a different perspective we came home with after just one daytrip!

We've enjoyed a busy summer with guests from far and wide, Bejing to Vienna, Saskatchewan to Florida and many good folks from our heartland. All rested peacefully under our red roof with no glare of streetlights or threat of sirens in this quiet prairie place. They partook of Triangle Ranch hospitality and delicious homecooked meals leaving as friends.

After the heat of summer the sublime feeling of fall is in the air. The cicadas are singing their anthem in the trees and birds are songfully starting to gather. Spring on the Ranch - A great time for Homeschoolers

The rain is blessing the earth at Triangle Ranch today, however many sunny days have caused the grass to green and buds are ready to open on the wildberry bushes and Great Grandma's lilacs. Best of all our cows are calving. Little black angus babies are frolicing on the hills near the B & B. Our native birds and waterfowl (western meadowlarks, mourning doves, robins, red-tailed hawks, golden eagles, killdeer, long-billed curlews, Canadian geese, etc.) are arriving daily.

This is a perfect time to observe and appreciate nature on the prairies. Triangle Ranch, 106 Years in the Making

Hello to old friends and friends to come. 2010 marks our 14th year of hosting folks from around the world. Kenny and I call ourselves "armchair travelers" because we are blessed to see the world through your eyes, yet never leaving our little corner of "heaven" here in South Dakota - Thank you.

Travelers from all of our 50 states and the Canadian provinces, England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Holland, Belgium, Germany, Czekoslavakia, Russia, Austria, Poland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Switzerland, France, Italy, Milan, Oman, Namibia, South Africa, India, New Zealand, Australia and Japan have partaken of Triangle Ranch's historic hospitality. We are blessed.

Lyndy's Great-Grandparents, Grandparents, father and mother pioneered the way for her, eldest of 3 little cowgirls, and her sisters to be raised here on the ranch as the fourth generation. Then Kenny (rancher's son and rodeo cowboy) became the son-in-law to help carry on the fifth and sixth generations.

Every morning we wake to the sun rising, gold and rose, over the Bad River breaks. We see wild deer and turkey grazing along with our angus cattle and chestnut geldings. Grocery shopping and outside entertainment is 25 miles away but it doesn't matter. Our world is 360 degrees of sky and peaceful prairie.
