INNKEEPERS ARE PEOPLE TOO!
We had a lovely guest the other day determined to see our pets. She said "I saw you had one cat and one dog on the website and want to meet them!"
I gave a bit of a chuckle, as the main reason we list Brewster our elderly-yet-spry-cat and Junie B Jones the assistant innkeeper (see my blog article "When's the Last Time a Cute Girl Checked You Out?") is for those who do not like dogs or have allergies. We want guests to know our pets are not in the guest areas at all, but Junie may be found outside chasing squirrels. But they are part of our family here at The Claiborne House.
Honestly, yes you know me by now and I have plenty of stories from my innkeeping experience. But I can only share them in person after breakfast, or I would be sued posting them here! Needless to say, yes there are those who are scared of chubby-cats, scared of silly-looking-short-legged dogs. Who run out of the room petrified. (Yes this has happened here, again, can't say more than that online.)
So next time you visit us at The Claiborne House Bed and Breakfast and need to get your PET FIX, feel free to ask our resident pooch Junie B Jones if she would like to show you around Rocky Mount. An early morning walk through town would be right up her alley! We do have a printed Historic Walking Tour of our small southern town of Rocky Mount.
A couple hints from your innkeeper:
- Just past our courthouse you will find the oldest historical landmark in this Franklin County - The Washington Iron Works Furnace. Played a part in the Revolutionary War and home to Colonel John Donelson (a famous President's father-in-Law).
- General Jubal A Early bad boy of the Confederacy was from Franklin County as was respected leader and black educator Booker T Washington.
- You might also want to visit our Franklin County Historical Society - along the same street, just a couple blocks from the B&B to see a Moonshine Still and some history on the Scoth-Irish heritage of this area.
