BLUE RIDGE MOUNTAIN CULTURE

is unique.  At The Claiborne House Bed and Breakfast I blog, post, and tell guests about the different happenings around our Franklin County and nearby Floyd where they can enjoy some real mountain culture.  There was wing-dings every night of the week - biscuits and gravy and bluegrass at Dairy Queen every Thursday morning Sept through May.

The Blue Ridge Parkway and The Crooked Road: Virginia's Heritage Music Trail are more than a road, they are a cultural experience of the heritage in these hills.  If you simply drive the road you will miss the experience.  The people are unique and this melting pot goes back pre-colonial.  While the wealthy farmed the commonwealth in the tidewater area, the rest scattered out amongst the not-so-easy to farm areas like the rugged hills and red clay of Franklin County, to make their own.

• Rocky Mount is the official start of The Crooked Road: Virginia's Heritage Music Trail - the first roadside kiosk for this trail is one block behind us next to The Depot (little train depot).  The instigator for this heritage music trail Joe Wilson stayed with us here at The Claiborne House and also wrote us up in his book - A Guide to The Crooked Road.
