Furniture belonging to the first governor of West Virginia is on display in this three-story museum. Other objects of interest here are antique musical instruments, Victorian artifacts and memorabilia from the Civil War era, such as an 1886 music box. Stop by at the furnished log house and caboose from the 1800s next to the museum.
 
The Round Barn Museum nearby belongs to the West Augusta Historical Society and is West Virginia's only restored round barn. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, it has a farm exhibit from the early 20th century, coal mining tools and other artifacts. The unique building itself is worth a look and if you swing by on a Thursday morning, you'll be able to watch the ladies quilt and even do some quilting yourself.

Not far from your Mannington Bed and Breakfast, this quiet park on the banks of the 10-mile-long mountain-fed Tygart Lake nestles amidst the rolling hills of Virginia.There are plenty of things you can do here like boating and hiking. In the summer, free guided nature programs are conducted by a naturalist.

The fort built in the style of the original Pricketts Fort on the frontier is set in a beautiful location overlooking the waters of Prickett's Creek and the Monongahela River. A visit takes you back to 1774 when the fort was used as a refuge from raiding Native Americans. You'll get a glimpse of 18th century lifestyle demonstrated via period costumes and colonial crafts. The gun shop is the only place in the state where you can see how the firearms of the time were manufactured. The scenic park around the fort is a great place for picnics, hiking, biking and boating. Concerts are held in the amphitheater during the summer months. The park is a short drive from nearby Fairmont.

This park near Fairmont and Grafton offers the same activities as the Pricket Fort State Park, but with the addition of kayaking and mountain biking. The series of foaming falls plunging down to the canyon floor are breathtaking.  Your Mannington Inn will feel even cozier after an adventure in the park.

If you love cars and stock car racing, in nearby Fairmont you can watch stock cars whiz past every Friday and Saturday evening on the I-79 Raceway at Exit 125. This event happens throughout the year.  

Phillipi Covered Bridge
Philippi, WV 26416

Another short drive from Mannington, WV, this two-lane covered bridge is the oldest in West Virginia. It was designed by the reputed architect Lemuel Chenoweth who, it's said, won the building contract by standing on his wooden model of the bridge. The restored bridge constructed in 1852 has survived floods, fire and ice jams and is still in use today.
