Celebrate a Middleburg Christmas (Plus 2 Other Events)

A Middleburg Christmas is about as idyllic a celebration as you can find in Virginia, or indeed the entire United States. If you've booked an historic Middleburg Bed and Breakfast so that you can take part in the celebrations, you're in for a treat. Here's a look at what you can expect from an old-fashioned Middleburg Christmas, as well as two other popular Middleburg events throughout the year.

Start the celebration by heading out of your picturesque Middleburg Inn for the annual Christmas parade led by the Middleburg Hunt's hounds and horses. As the parade continues you can enjoy local bands, colorful floats and costumes, and routines by local youth groups. You can have breakfast with Santa Claus and take part in the silent auction on the day of the parade. The craft show, flower show and hay rides round out the Middleburg Christmas celebration.

Middleburg itself is always decked out for the holidays, and local shops and restaurants offer festive respites from the winter chill. Other Christmas festivities include holiday religious services, Christmas concerts with the Westminster Concert Bell Choir and the Children's Choir, and some excellent Christmas shopping.

Middleburg Spring (and Fall) Races

Nearly every April since the spring of 1911, visitors to Middleburg have enjoyed one of Virginia's great steeplechases, the Middleburg Spring Races. Former First Lady Jackie Kennedy used to frequent the races, and her presidential husband occasionally made a brief appearance. The race has been run at Glenwood Park Racecourse since it was built in 1932, and Middleburg's infatuation with all things equine ensures that the races will continue for many years to come.

If you've booked your Middleburg Bed and Breakfast vacation for the autumn, never fear. The Virginia Fall Races also take place at Glenwood Park Racecourse every October. This annual steeplechase has been run since 1955.
