Charleston Museum

One of the places to visit has to be America's first museum. Founded in 1773, this museum preserves the history and culture of Charleston through exhibits on Native Americans, the plantation systems, trade & commerce, African-American contributions, and Civil War memorabilia. Objects from that time such as clothing, furniture, tools, pewter, ceramics, and toy and games exemplify what life was like for Charlestonians back then.

Another place besides the Charleston Museum that celebrates the history of Charleston is the Charleston Towne Landing. Here, visitors can see a reproduction of the 17th century cargo vessel, Adventure. For the Charleston B&B guests that are into submarine and wartime vessels, this is the place for you. Ships like the Yorktown CV-10, the destroyer USS Laffey, the Treasury class Coast Guard cutter Ingham, and the Balao class submarine Clamagore are on display here and open to the public. Dubbed as one of the hottest new entertainment complexes in the country, this is the place to see a concert or performance when vacating at a Charleston bed and breakfast. Artists such as John Legend, India Arie, Rod Stewart, Neil Diamond, the Eagles, and Jimmy Buffet have all performed here. Also, Jerry Seinfeld has done a performance as well. Located six miles away in North Charleston, the North Charleston Cultural Arts is a venue for cultural activities within the community. They host a multitude of events throughout the year like dinner theatre, summer concerts, children's theatre, and stage band concerts. Past events include a Native American and Cherokee Art Showcase and Children's Theatre rendition of "Chicken Little".
