Experience Seaside Festivals and Summer Events

When traveling to Oregon, be sure to stop along the coast and attend a Seaside festival. Seaside, Oregon is an oceanfront resort area approximately 90 minutes west of Portland. You'll find a number of exciting festivals and events that take place here annually, many of them close to the ocean beaches. Downtown Seaside is home to a number of antique and specialty shops, art galleries and family-friendly amusements like bumper cars, miniature golf and a large arcade.

A memorable Seaside festival you'll want to attend is the annual 4th of July celebration. The yearly parade begins at the Seaside Museum, traveling through the length of town. After the parade concludes, visitors go back to the museum grounds for the afternoon Old Fashioned Social which features games, activities and food. Around 10 p.m. is when the annual fireworks show starts. If you're staying at a Seaside bed and breakfast near the promenade, you'll have a bird's eye view of the show. If not, bring your beach blanket or chairs and secure a spot near the beach to enjoy one of the most spectacular fireworks displays on the Oregon Coast.

An annual sporting event sponsored by the Seaside Chamber of Commerce, the Beach Volleyball Competition is the largest amateur tournament in the country. Seaside has hosted this event for nearly 30 years, giving away a grand prize of $15,000 in August 2010. The competition lasts three days from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. In 2009, Seaside hosted more than 740 teams, playing on 90 different volleyball courts on the beach. A number of divisions are available for entrants, including a parent-child division, co-ed, women's and men's.

This annual Seaside festival takes place in July and is a "ride-in only" event. Started in 2005, Bike Fest was created for motorcycle enthusiasts, bike builders and vendors to gather and share their love for all things to do with motorcycles. During this two-day festival, Seaside inns, local restaurants and pubs sponsor the entertainment, including concerts in the local park. Commemorative t-shirts of the event are sold at The Man Store of Seaside.

This Seaside festival occurs in August of each year, and is sponsored by the Seaside Museum and Historical Society, The Pacific Northwest Living Historians and the Fort Clatsop National Memorial. The Salt Makers Return is a two-day event honoring the infamous Lewis and Clark Expedition with the traditional making of sea salt on the ocean beaches of Seaside. Locals and historical society members in costume will be representing Lewis and Clark, as well as native Clatsop Indians.

Started in 1966, Seaside's Annual Beach Run consists of a 5K and 10K competition, as well as a timed and non-timed 5K walk along the city's beachfront promenade. This annual event welcomes entrants of all ages, along with their leashed animals if you'd like to bring them. All funds raised from this event are used to supply gym memberships to local middle and high school students.
