A Guide to the Themeparks in Mount Sterling

The village of Mount Sterling is located in Ohio's Madison County. It's considered part of the Columbus, Ohio, metro area and was first founded in the late 1820s. While Mount Sterling does not have any theme parks or major attractions located within its village, there are a few locations tourists may want to visit less than two hours away.

The Zoombezi Bay water park in Powell, Ohio is approximately 45 minutes north of your Mount Sterling inn. This 23-acre aquatic theme park is open annually from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Some of Zombezi Bay's newer attractions for 2011 include the Python Plunge and Big Boa Falls. The Python Plunge is a waterslide that jet-blasts riders uphill and then plunges them into a 70-foot pool of water. Big Boa Falls has such fast rushing water through its tubes, and it feels like there is zero gravity; you're literally floating as you're being shot through to the wave pool waiting below.

Another theme park about an hour south of Mount Sterling is Kings Island. It's hailed as one of the largest and most popular theme parks by Ohio residents. You'll find more rollercoasters than anything else, and it has some doozies. If you're the ultimate thrill seeker, try one of these popular coasters: the Beast (a wooden rollercoaster and the longest in the world), Flight of Fear (a new age indoor coaster that reach speeds of 50 mph in seconds), the Diamondback (a hypercoaster that gets up to heights of 230 feet and speeds of 80 mph) and the Drop Tower (a free-fall ride, while strapped into your seat of course, that travels a whopping 70 mph).
