A Walk in the Park

If you have come on vacation to get away from it all, take a stroll through Raven Rock State Park to recharge your batteries. There is no better relaxation than walking to ease yourself gently back into leisure mode, especially with forests, rivers and wildlife all around you. There are designated easy walking and jogging trails to follow, and route maps are available from the administration office. All the pressure and stress of living and working in the city will soon disappear in this natural environment.

Hiking to the Raven Rock

Hiking requires a little more energy than walking, and dedicated hiking trails are plentiful in Raven Rock State Park. The most popular trail takes you through dense hardwood forests over rugged and rough ground in the direction of the park's focal point, the Raven Rock. It is around a mile of pure joy, especially if you're wearing comfortable footwear. At the foot of the rock, the river bank provides a haven of rest under an overhang and from here you can admire the park in all its natural glory.

Four Legged Friends

Let the horses carry you over seven miles of wilderness trails reserved for horseback riding. You will be encouraged not to stray off the chosen bridle paths of Raven Rock State Park, because they pass close to privately owned land. Rangers will advise you when you book, and they will also advise you that horses cannot venture onto the hiking trails. Another tip is not to go horseback riding after heavy rains, because the terrain becomes very dangerous.

Shoot the Rapids

Lanier Falls and the Fish Traps on the Cape Fear River Canoe Trail provide enough excitement to last you a lifetime. If it's an adrenalin rush you're after, this is the one is for you.

Fishing in the Park

Campbell Creek and the Fish Traps are where anglers hope to catch catfish, green sunfish, American eel, largemouth bass and other species. All anglers must have a state fishing license, and fishing times must be observed and adhered to.

Activity and tour information is available from the main office, and note that opening hours vary during different seasons. Make sure you confirm the timings before setting off into the wilderness. A Dunn Bed and Breakfast provides you with a comfortable home away from home to return to after an adventurous day in the open air.
