Take your entire family to the 112-acre Carowinds. This amusement park is home to over 50 rides, live shows, eateries, stores and attractions, including a 20-acre water park. There are even a variety of games you can select from, such as break a plate, basketball throw or numerous guessing games. Live entertainment shows you may want to attend are "Marty's Party" or "Snoopy Rocks! On Ice."  While you are wondering through the park stop by Carolina Candy to purchase homemade fudge, Crave for surf accessories or Airbrush Designs where you can design a hat or t-shirt. If you enjoy roller coasters, try the steel coaster Carolina Cyclone with four 360-degree loops or the wooden mine train roller coaster Carolina Goldrusher. Children can play all day in the kiddie section. Many enjoy the carousel, Joe Cool's Driving School and Charlie Brown's Wind Up. The 150,000-square-foot NASCAR Hall of Fame salutes NASCAR's history by educating visitors in a high-tech venue. You can explore the numerous interactive exhibits, hundreds of artifacts and simulator rides. In addition, the 278-seat High Octane Theater hosts various informational movies on more than 60 years of NASCAR history. Experience what a NASCAR team goes through before a race and get an up-close look at the NASCAR transporter. Visitors see vibrant indoor billboards depicting actual NASCAR cars and graphics. There is a broadcast newsroom, a 19,000-square-foot ceremonial plaza and individual artifact galleries. When you are ready to eat, try the Buffalo Wild Wings or Hall of Fame Café located on the property. Add a few hours of outdoor recreation and environmental education at the U.S. National Whitewater Center less than 15 minutes from Charlotte Downtown. If you have never been whitewater kayaking, staff members can teach you. Equipment that you need are appropriate swimwear, paddle, nose clips, closed-toe shoes, thermal underwear and a personal flotation device. Alternatively, plan to hike, walk or run through the 300 acres of woodlands near the Catawba River. Terrain can be flat, steep or slightly elevated. So, watch for the color-coded markers indicating the type of terrain and difficultly. Other activities available are eco trekking, biking and climbing.
