For the adventurous, there's a horizontal rock climbing wall that will amuse or stun, depending on your viewpoint.

The home of Franklin D. Roosevelt sits overlooking the Hudson River in nearby Hyde Park and is filled with the furniture, objects, and memories of this great American president. History buffs travel hundreds of miles to explore the mansion and the property, with its idyllic rolling hillside. Visit in the summer and be stunned by the beauty of the gardens filled with flowers. The estate is open year-round, seven days a week.

This unique art center is located on 500 acres and celebrates the unique relationship between nature and art. Installations by well-known artists dot the landscape and make a statement about how important art is in nature. There is also an indoor art gallery that highlights the mission of Storm King Art Center. The facility is only miles from your Poughkeepsie b&b and well worth the ride. The art center is open from April 1 to November 15. Be sure to bring walking shoes when you visit this incredible spot.

You don't often think about stopping at a post office for sightseeing, but the Poughkeepsie Main Post Office is definitely worth a visit. Filled with murals that detail the area's history, the building, a National Historic Landmark, was built by the WPA during the Great Depression. Its detailed architecture is typical of the period and the murals were completed by talented craftspeople and local artists.

Locus Grove - Samuel Morse Historic Site

This 180-acre estate was home to Samuel Morse, the inventor of the telegraph and the Morse code. Open all year long with the exception of holidays, the property includes the home where Morse lived with his family and which he purchased in 1847, shortly after inventing the telegraph. Besides viewing the house and the collection detailing Morse's invention, visitors are also welcome to wander the more than 100 acres of rolling hills and wonderful views of the Hudson River Valley.
