Edward Tooker Home

This High Victorian Italianate was built by Hamilton Tooker's son, Edward, circa 1854. It features a low pitched roof, decorative double brackets, arched paired windows and double arched doors. It stands along Prospect Street where other Port Jefferson homes, such as the R.H. Wilson House, Hamilton Tooker Home, Capt. C.E. Tooker Home and Billy Brown Residence, are located.

Dr. Deale Residence

This Queen Anne style house was constructed on the former cemetery site of the original Methodist church, circa 1880. What makes this house distinct is the shell and bead glass design around its front door sidelights. It was owned by Dr. Leroy Deale, a dental surgeon from 1907 to 1954.

Mather-Bedell House

This circa 1812 Federal style house is believed to be the residence of Richard Conklin Mather, first of the Mather shipbuilding family. It features rough-sawn and hand-hewn timbers with roman numerals written on the rafters, showing very old building techniques. The house faces the waterfront and looks down directly on the site of the Mather shipyard.

The houses showcases the Federal style that was developed from 1775 to 1820. It is said to be the first truly American architectural style, though it evolved from Colonial styles brought by early settlers from Europe. The house used wood instead of brick, and the roof balustrade is made of windows instead of the typical frieze.

The former residence of the Mather family, who were 19th century Port Jefferson shipbuilders, the complex is now the headquarters of The Historical Society of Greater Port Jefferson. There, visitors can find the Craft House & Museum Shop; Country Store; Marine Barn & Sail Loft; Tool Shed; The Spinney Clock Museum; and the Thomas Jefferson perennial garden. Visit them from your Port Jefferson inn to view their collection, which includes works by local artists William Davis and Leon Foster Jones, ship models, shipbuilding and sailmaking implements, vintage tools, period furniture, old photographs, antique toys, historical books, taped oral histories and more.

Children's Maritime Museum holds a mission to be a venue where families can experience the "excitement of scientific discovery, develop a broadened cultural awareness and experience a sense of artistry while learning about Long Island's rich and varied maritime heritage." They feature exhibits like the Chandlery, The Big Ship Zone, the Navigation Station, the Pirate's Cove and the Boatyard. They also have various programs such as the Saturday Drop-Off Program and Family Fun at CMM.
