Travel from your Oxford bed and breakfast to the wild. The Hefner Zoology Museum, housed within Miami University, offers extensive exhibits and archival information. Through photographs, literature and creature samples, it seeks to explain nature and the importance of conservation. Though it is used in the daily studies of students, it is also available to the public and provides many fascinating hours. It is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday through Friday, and also from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on the first Sunday of every month between September and May. Donations are welcomed.
William Holmes McGuffey Museum

A celebration of education, the William Holmes McGuffey Museum offers guests a little piece of history. It was here that McGuffey compiled his famous book, the "McGuffey Eclectic Reader". These pages serviced the entire country, with an emphasis on spelling and morality stories. Visitors can now tour the home they were created in and find carefully detailed rooms complete with donated furnishings and period artifacts. It's a return to the past and is not to be missed. Travelers, take note: while guided tours are available, they must be made by appointment. The museum is not open daily and scheduling is required.

All roads from Oxford inns should lead you to this impressive museum. With 5 galleries devoted to paintings, sculptures and design, it is the ideal way to spend your vacation. Exhibits are forever changing and the result is a fascinating exploration of art and color. Glass, clay and iron all meet and delight. Local artists are surrounded by their famous compatriots. It's a true treat. The gallery is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday through Friday, and noon to 5 p.m. on Saturday. It is closed on university holidays. Admission is free, but donations are appreciated.

Waiting just beyond Oxford is Pyramid Hill. This outdoor gallery is without equal or even expectations. Let your family walk through the 265 acres, each filled with whimsy and surprise. Combining stone with forestry, the park seeks to educate visitors with its dynamic collections. Nature is supported and art is recognized. It's ideal for youths and offers an interactive design. The sculptures are one of a kind and fill the grounds. Admission is $8.00 for adults and $2.00 for children. The weather will determine travel, though, and you must plan accordingly.
