Sears Island

The uninhabited island offers a great place for biking and walking with its paved road that runs across the two-mile length of the island. In winter, you can snowshoe here and there are several hiking trails and picnic areas. It's possible to view seals sunning themselves on the rocks. If you're lucky, you'll glimpse a passing whale. Wildlife, birds and plants are plentiful. You can get to this island via a causeway from Sears Island Road located to the north of Searsport. Admission is free.
Lincolnville Beach

This beach is famous for its excellent restaurants. From here you can take a ferry to the island of Islesboro (a 20-minute ride) or Iselton in the bay. The beach offers activities like swimming and sailing. The water is quite warm and shallow, and the sand is soft. Lincolnville has some good antique shops and art galleries to visit from your Searsport Bed and Breakfast.

A favorite haunt for summer vacationers, the beautiful island is a great spot for biking. Explore stunning coves and harbors and see the impressive summer homes of the rich and famous. Other places to visit on the island are the Warren Island State Park, the Grindle Point Lighthouse and the Sailors' Memorial Museum.

Close to the Lincolnville Beach, this coastal park is a haven for hikers and bikers. There are opportunities for birdwatching, trekking, backpacking and going for scenic drives. It's one of the best vantage points from which to view Penobscot Bay. The small town of Camden lies at the foothills of the Camden Hills and the harbor is dotted with the biggest fleet of windjammers on the Maine coast. The charming little coastal town of Rockland is known as the gateway to Penobscot Bay. The town used to supply limestone to American cities 200 years ago. Today it's known as the Lobster Capital of the World and hosts the Maine Lobster Festival every August. It's also known for its elite with their swanky yachts. Rockland is a wonderful place for strolls (you can explore the whole town by foot), and there are several parks. The delightful Rockland Breakwater Lighthouse offers spectacular views of the bay. The main Street is lined with quaint souvenir and antique shops and if you like art, check out the Farnsworth Art Museum with its collection of paintings from the famous Wyeth family.
Ferries ply to the various islands in the bay, which has about 200 of them! The island of Vinalhaven with its natural beauty and ancient volcanic rocks or the popular summer island resort of North Haven are good choices.
