The Rockland breakwater is one of the best places to fish because you can also benefit from the natural beauty of the environment. This is also a great fishing spot for kids because of the diversity of marine wildlife that can be seen. The species of fish you may expect to catch in this area include Cunner, Bluefish, Bass and Mackerel.

Accessibility: The lighthouse is at the end of a 7/8-mile-long breakwater. It is open weekends in summer from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. For more information, contact the Friends of the Rockland Breakwater Lighthouse.
St. George River
St. Georges River in the nearby town on Thomason is a very popular Rockland fishing destination. Upstream fishing is difficult because the river is quite narrow and fast moving, but there are some good fishing opportunities around the town landing. The species of fish that you might expect to catch at St. Georges River include Bluefish, Bass and possibly Mackerel.

Penobscot Bay
Penobscot Bay is an area close to Rockland which is well known for fishing. It has been used as a popular Rockland fishing destination for hundreds of years and is also a very beautiful part of the area. Rockland is located on the western side of Penobscot Bay and is made up of a series of separate islands.

Megunticook Lake
Megunticook lake is one of the most peaceful areas around Rockland to go fishing. The lake itself is 1,220 acres in size and is full of lots of small islands. At its deepest point the depth of the lake is 64 feet. The best season to visit this area for fishing is from April until September. Fish which can be caught at this lake include White Perch, Rainbow Trout, Brown Trout and Bass.

Oyster River
Oyster river is a good sized river which flows through the Rockland Bog. This is a very peaceful but potentially dangerous area of Rockland and lots of anglers have found themselves lost out on the Bog. The best spots are along the Rockland Bogs which is located very close to the town of Rockland. Fishing in the Oyster River is easiest when using a canoe or fishing from the bank. Black and Brown Trout can be caught in this area.
Due to its close location to the town, it is easiest to stay in a Rockland Inn when visiting this area.
